 Fire Sprinklers
Commercial fire sprinklers react quickly to fire and therefore (in many cases) extinguish a fire in the very early stages. Not only does the speed of operation reduce actual fire damage but, both smoke and water damage are reduced also.

Unlike in films, only the sprinkler (s) in the area that is on fire activate. In cases of commercial fire, an average of only 4 sprinklers activate.

Building regulations now require any building with an open space of over 2000m2 to be fitted with fire sprinklers. As a responsible business owner, you may feel that it is wise to install fire sprinklers into your premises, even though legislation does not dictate you must.

Figures revealed in the Scottsdale Report regarding fires in commercial premises show:

During the Ten-year period of the study, Scottsdale suffered 574 commercial fire incidents, of these 65 incidents occurred in sprinkler protected property. Study of the sprinklered buildings showed that 59 of the incidents were controlled by one or two sprinklers activating. The remaining six fires had multiple head activation as follows;

3 Vehicle related fires, one Arson & one flammable liquid spill. The highest number of heads activated was FIVE, caused by a fire & subsequent explosion of a Fire Department Ambulance in an underground Car Park

What the Professionals Say:
Fire and Rescue services throughout the UK are calling for the introduction of fire sprinklers into commercial premises. Modern buildings and contents when on fire, put huge demands on the Fire Service, and more importantly, on fire fighters.

Research is being carried out throughout the world to establish the effects on fire fighters bodies of fighting fires, and already indications are, that unknown to the fire fighters, they are at risk of collapse BEFORE they actually reach some fires. This is due to the equipment they carry and the long distances traveled within buildings to reach fire.
